Take a Tour of Pharos AMS

We'd like to take you on a quick tour of some of the rich content that Pharos Asset Management System (AMS) delivers.

Pharos AMS is the Swiss Army Knife for the commercial operations of power plant management. It provides real time intelligence and analytical tools and streamlines your daily process by taking thirty minutes or thirty seconds off the time you normally spend painstakingly collecting and analyzing data.

Have a look inside.

Zonal Prices

Asset Operations

The Asset Operations Screen is the main dashboard to find out what's happening with the market as well as your unique set of assets.

Asset Operations Summary

We include operational information such as power plant output, fuel consumption, emissions and dispatch directions. Then we overlay publicly available market information such as day-ahead and real-time generator, zonal and regulation prices, as well as loads and forecasted loads. We will also show market alerts, ACE and startup notifications (when available).

We take things farther by integrating that information with your private data, such as generator and virtual awards as well as offers. For example, looking at the price of 51.56 in the above example it's not clear if that price is high or low -- especially relative to the offer submitted to the market. We color code prices so you know if the price is above your highest offer, below your lowest offer or if you are setting the price. One quick glance at the screen can tell you if your units should be ramped up or down. You can also spot check in real-time whether your portfolio is making money or losing money.

Having this information integrated and easily accessible can provide detailed intelligence as to what is happening with your units and providing insight into what is happening in the market. When combined with several of our real-time analytical tools you can paint a detailed picture what is happening.

Zonal Price Analyzer

We plot the day-ahead and real-time price of every generator in a zone. This is a powerful tool in finding out what may be setting the price and understanding where the congestion may be. With knowledge of transmission outages this screen can help you develop INCing and DECing strategies.

Zonal Price Chart

In the above example it is easy to see prices separating in the SEMA Zone in ISO-NE. Quick inspection of which nodes are at what price easily identifies the congestion is between the Cape and the rest of Massachusetts. Align that information with the transmission outages and you can see which transmission line caused the congestion. Armed with that knowledge, you may be able to predict price behavior when outages are first announced.

Pre-Market Close Offer Review Screen

Bidding errors that cost your company money are not inevitable -- they are preventable, though thorough inspection of your offers can take time using a market portal, especially with a significant number of assets. We have created tools to make the process of checking bids much faster and more efficient.

Market Offer Review

Our Market Offer Review Screen allows you download all bids and offers from the market for all units and across all energy products and display that information in one easy-to-view location. We provide summary statistics to help spot issues such as offering too low a price (the unit is guaranteed to be committed) or too high a price (it gets mitigated). We also provide easy access to bids submitted in the past. This screen is therefore not only a tool for the asset manager but also a tool for settlements to go back and understand why a unit was dispatched the way it was.

Bid Visualizer

Ever wanted to see if you were being dispatched along your bid curve? Now you can, easily. We capture all of your offers and then display dispatch details on the same screen. This allows you to visualize if the bid curve you submitted matched your intentions. It is also a great tool for settlements to discover if (and why) there should or should not be a make-whole payment (NCPC in ISO-NE or BPCG in NYISO).

ISO-NE Bid Visualizer

Information Management

We download your private data and archive it beyond the ISO retention policies, providing you with easy access to that information. Below is a screenshot of our ISO-NE files archive.

ISO-NE MIS File Filter

Several times a day we pull files from the ISO-NE FTP site and store it on our servers. Then we provide you the ability to search, view or download those files. The Pharos AMS website makes your information more available to your asset managers, analysts and settlements than ever before.

This screen has saved us significant time in tracking down billing issues in the consulting work we do.

Email Notifications

Email Signup Form

We want to free our users of having to sit by the computer, actively watching what is happening. By sending timely email alerts as events take place, we provide real-time business intelligence services to our clients.

We allow each user to subscribe to the email lists of their choosing.

Example situations in which email notifications are critical: units being dispatched or shut down, emissions limits being reached, and gas consumption exceeding nominations. We can notify you of issues in the market such as price spikes, compile and forward daily market reports for price or load, send the results of the day-ahead award, bids being mitigated or even notices of new files being published by the ISO.
