"Perfecting commercial operations"
Pharos AMS is a secure web-based application providing advanced business intelligence and analytical tools to power plant owners, operators and managers. It is the Swiss Army Knife of a commercial operations organization.
We can help you answer these questions anytime/anywhere: Are my gas turbines generating and how much? How much fuel am I consuming? Did we run our units overnight? Am I making money? How are my virtual transactions doing? Why is the zonal price so high? What caused power prices to spike? Where is the congestion in the zone? What is the detail behind the settlements statements from the ISO and how does it compare to operations?
Better yet, how would you like to be notified of issues while they are happening as opposed to finding out after the fact. Pharos AMS can alert you if your unit is being mitigated, your gas turbine was just dispatched, you switched fuels, burned more gas than you purchased, if there is a reserve event, or what is your day ahead award.
Pharos AMS delivers key functionality:
Organizational CustomersPower plant investors who outsource energy management. This can be an investor or several investors such as hedge funds and private equity who have invested in a company to own, operate, or manage other people to manage their assets. We provide the tools to track their investment. Contract energy managers. These are companies who are in the business of managing power plants for other people. We provide the tools to not only help them manage the power plants but also to keep their clients informed. We make it easy to securely share information with anyone outside of the company firewall. Owner/operator/managers. These are companies who do it all. Essentially there is no difference between this type of client and a contract energy manager except there need to share information outside of the organization. Our pricing structure allows the administrator to grant full or limited access to the Pharos AMS to anyone inside or outside their organization at no additional cost. |
Business Unit CustomersWithin an organization we are developing tools for the entire enterprise. Here are some examples. Asset Desk. We provide tools to assist the asset desk in managing their power plants. With the Pharos AMS the asset desk has rapid access to real time information. We can alert them to events as they are happening to mitigate their impact. We provide business intelligence and analysis quickly so they can better interpret what is happening and make faster, more informed decisions. Our software provides an automated second set of eyes to help minimize errors and spot issues and trends in dispatching. Settlements. We provide access to both settlements and operations data, keeping documents indefinitely so they are available after the ISO retention policies terminate. We make it easy for a settlements analyst to perform forensics on the events on a particular day and facilitate closing the feedback loop between settlements and the asset desk. We track every bid and offer to market close through the award and mitigation process allowing settlements to have a complete record of changes. Management. We provide management with tools to track the assets and monitor their asset managers on multiple levels. We allow management to easily see how the asset managers offer power into the market as well as give them the tools to perform ad-hoc analysis. We can provide up-to-the-hour settlements estimates and performance tracking. IT/Programming. Included in our license is SAS-70 certified data Engineering. With access to performance data we can provide your engineers and plant personnel with real time analysis and access to data to help them spot performance issues. |
Aggregation and Normalization from (Almost) Any Source
Grid showing data from multiple sources
Energy companies today, like many other businesses, are drowning in data. A typical power company will have tens of thousands of data points stored historically in plant databases, years of historical data stored with the ISO, publicly available market data from ISO web services, logistics information in key vendor databases, commodity and financial market data, operational information on third-party web sites, real-time feeds from the ISO, as well as difficult-to-capture information, such as verbal dispatch orders and other operational data. This data is spread all over the globe in many different formats, and each may require any of a dozen different protocols to access. Pharos AMS aggregate, store, and organize this data for you. We have aggregators for supported energy markets (ISO-NE and NYISO, and more on the way), common databases, and third-party data sources. We pride ourselves on the flexibility of our data aggregators, and the breadth of our support. If we don't have an aggregator for your critical data source, we will build one. Data Access
Download realtime XML data
Pharos AMS can be securely accessed by any networked device with a web browser: during the day, from your desktop, at night, from your laptop, and when on the road, access from your phone, Blackberry or mobile device. Without per-seat license fees, you can also authorize anyone inside or outside your company to access Pharos AMS. A full-featured user privileging system allows you to limit access to sensitive data and screens.. Your in-house analytical tools and IT staff can leverage Pharos AMS by accessing your data using our data APIs. We can provide the data to you in a variety of formats (XML, JSON, CSV) allowing your staff to focus on improving your business and not reinventing the wheel. It's your data. Access it whenever you want, however you want it. Realtime Monitoring
Visual cues indicate data realtime data updates
Pharos AMS makes every piece of data available in realtime. We actively pull data from your sources so that as soon as the data is published, you see it in front of you. Every screen dynamically updates as new data becomes available, and visual cues indicate what data has changed. Pharos AMS has screens pre-configured for each energy market and common roles at energy organizations. But you can also design your own screens for specific purposes or to meet the needs of your own users and roles. Data Visualization and Analysis
Chart any data point historically
Pharos AMS empowers you to view your data many different ways. Some data is best suited in tabular form while some data is best visualized graphically. We use the latest graphical technologies to give you as much control as possible to view and analyze data in real time. You can create historical charts for one or more data points, and perform on-the-spot calculations on the data. Moving averages, sums and differences, and many more advanced calculations are at your fingertips. The real value of the Pharos AMS is in integrating data from multiple sources to produce rich meaningful content. We make it easy to go back historically to see operational data along side settlements data or to conduct post-mortem studies of decisions made during critical situations by replaying events as they happened. We learn from studying the past. We make learning quicker and easier making the Pharos AMS and ideal training tool for new employees. |
Alerts and Events
Email alerts keep you informed of system changes
In the words of David Hubel, “We need above all to know about changes; no one wants or needs to be reminded 16 hours a day that his shoes are on.” Pharos AMS keeps you informed by alerting you, via visual cues or email, that an event has happened somewhere in the system. Get alerted when a plant lights off by creating an alert that watches your gas burns. Know when a unit hits the line, shuts off or has an issue by watching for sudden MW changes. Be alerted if your operators aren't hitting their basepoints, or if the ISO schedules your unit. The possibilities are limited only by the available data. Using Pharos AMS alerts, you don't even have to pull up a web browser to know everything about the status of your plants and your business. Sometimes no-user-interface is the best user-interface. Bidding AnalyticsPharos AMS can sanity-check your market offers prior to close to ensure they abide by market rules and mitigate the significant risk of asset managers submitting unintended offers due to computer or human error. Pharos AMS also allows asset managers to analyze and visualize their bids and offers to and understand past performance to develop improved strategies. Knowledgebase
Decipher ISO data and APIs using our comprehensive knowledgebase
In our experience, documents posted by ISOs and other information providers about their systems can be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or just plain uninformative. In putting significant resources into integrating our system with the ISOs. We have gained an understanding of how each provider's system works, their APIs, what when and where the data is made available, and the context around each piece of information. We have put this information consisley into a set of internal documents we call the Pharos Knowledgebase. We're making that hard-won knowledge available to our customers via the Asset Management System. As part of our commitment to improving our customers' information management, we believe that providing this meta-data will increase everyone's understanding of the ISO and energy market, and result in increased market opportunities for our clients. As we learn more, we will to the knowledgebase and expand its coverage and depth. PricingThe pricing structure for Pharos AMS is simple, with no hidden fees or per-seat licenses. We are always listening to our customers and improving our application. We do not charge for upgrades, enhancements or a new features and will roll them out as they are created (we will charge a negotiated rate for content specific or proprietary to a client). The Pharos AMS is a dynamic product. The product you buy today will be vastly different from the product you relicense tomorrow. Our license fee is based on the number of markets your company participates, the number of market participants/companies your company administers and the number of turbines you own or manage (if any). |
